| Most criminals
would rather target a home or business which is NOT protected by a
burglar alarm. Furthermore, government statistics show
that the majority of burglaries carried out on protected homes are
actually unsuccessful, which proves that burglar alarms are an
effective form of protection and a deterrent to most prospective
burglars.
Having an alarm installed is an excellent deterrent, however
there are many other simple precautions you can take which will
greatly reduce the risk of you becoming a victim of burglary, for
example:- |
 |
Most burglars are
opportunists, so make sure all doors and windows are closed and
locked before going out. |
 |
Do not leave
valuable on display - even your DVD or video collection |
 |
Set timer switches
for lights, even leave a radio or hi-fi playing when going out for
the night. |
 |
Lock away all
jewellery and do not leave cash in the house. |
 |
Keep legal
documents and keys hidden away. |
 |
Don't forget to
set your alarm, even if you're only going to the shop. |
 |
If you're going on
holiday, ask a neighbour to keep an eye on your property and get
them to remove any build up of mail, or the milk if you forget to
cancel it. If they'll do it, get them to open and close curtains to
make the house look occupied. |
 |
Ask a neighbour to
park their car on your driveway if you have taken your car with you
on holiday. |
